The Master of Professional Accounting is designed for those from non-accounting backgrounds who wish to pursue a career in the accounting industry. It equips students with knowledge and skills in accounting and related fields to gain employment in a variety of organisations in public practice and industry. The course is accredited with CPA Australia (CPAA) and The Institute of Chartered Accountants (ICAA) which will enable our graduates to articulate into these prominent programs. The course covers the core curriculum areas for classification as an accountant. The Master of Professional Accounting course comprises 12 compulsory units that enable a graduate to be classified as an "Accountant" in conformity with the requirements of the Australian Standard Classification of Occupations (ASCO Code:2211-11). The core curriculum areas include studies in financial and management accounting; auditing; statistics and business finance; consumer; corporate and taxation law; economics and information systems.

The Master of Professional Accounting is a graduate conversion course and has been designed for graduate students to enable entry into the accounting profession with no or limited previous exposure to the study of accounting. This course provides an excellent platform for career progression, facilitating the development of essential business skills valued by employers.

Course Duration

The MPA is offered full-time (4 units per trimester) or part-time (1 or 2 units per trimester):

  • MPA (12 units) – 1 year full-time or equivalent part-time.

Full-time – 20 contact hours per week / 4 contact hours per unit of study

There are three intakes per year for entry into our accounting courses:

On campus: part-time, full-time
* Note – international students are required to study full-time as a condition of their study visa.

Assessment
Assessment is an integral part of the learning process at Kaplan Business School. Assessment includes all essays, tests, presentations, exams and any other work set during the trimester.

Advanced Standing
Candidates who have completed other graduate level studies considered to be equivalent to one or more compulsory units may be eligible for advanced standing for a maximum of six credits (36 points).
