This program is called General Academic English (GAE) and is designed to develop a student's English language skills in preparation for successful entry into the Diploma of Commerce, Graduate Certificate in Accounting, Master of Accounting Studies (MAS) and Master of Professional Accounting (MPA).

The program concentrates on developing the skills needed to become a successful and confident student at university and in the business world.

Students will improve their general language skills in speaking, listening, reading and writing. At Kaplan Business School there is also a strong emphasis on academic and business-related terminology, vocabulary and functional language.

Students are assessed on their participation in class and use of English, in addition to weekly tests and an end-of- program exam, which make up the formal assessment.

Program length

  • IELTS 4.5 overall (two bands of 4.0 and one band of 4.5) - 30 weeks
  • IELTS 4.5 overall (three bands of 4.5 or higher) - 25 weeks
  • IELTS 5.0 overall (one band of 4.0 or 4.5 in two bands) - 20 weeks
  • IELTS 5.0 overall (all bands 5.0 or above) - 10 weeks
  • IELTS 5.5 - 5 weeks

For students without an IELTS score, programs can be tailored to their needs after an individual consultation with one of our staff. Equivalent English language tests are also recognised.

Lower level courses are available on request.

  • The English Program is available on the School premises - students have access to a computer suite, student common room and support services staff.
